About the winery
Colección de Toneles Centenarios is a project in Cañada, in Alicante's Alto Vinalopó, devoted to Fondillón, the historic Monastrell wine of the D.O. Alicante. It grew out of the cask hall of the former Bodegas Ferrero, which closed in the 1960s: its very old soleras remained untouched for more than half a century until, in 2015, twenty-five vessels were recovered, including casks from the late 19th century and butts from the early 20th. Its Fondillones bear the name Luis XIV in memory of the French king, a great admirer of this wine. It also works its own old vineyards in the village with historic varieties such as Monastrell, Arcos, Giró, Tortosí and Verdil, using clay tinajas, concrete lagares and minimal intervention.
