Bodega San Ero

About the winery

Bodega San Ero is in Armenteira, in the municipality of Meis, at the foot of the mountain and monastery that give its wine its name, in the Val do Salnés of the D.O. Rías Baixas. It takes its name from the legend of Ero, founding abbot of Armenteira, who according to a cantiga by Alfonso X spent three hundred years entranced by the song of a bird. It is run by the Abal Varela family, an independent winery with limited production that farms around eight hectares of Albariño spread across the valley, on high pergolas, on sandy soils and with hand harvesting. Its wine is Albariño San Ero. Very close to the winery starts the Ruta da Pedra e da Auga, a riverside trail that runs down from the monastery.
