About the winery
Bodegas Albamar is Xurxo Alba's family winery in Cambados, in the Val do Salnés, within the D.O. Rías Baixas. The family had grown vines and made Albariño for generations, and in 2006, when Xurxo finished his oenology studies, they began bottling and selling their own wines. The winery stands next to his parents' restaurant. It farms about 2.5 hectares of its own plus vineyards from other local growers, always close to the sea, on the granite soils of Salnés, trained on pergolas and trellises. All its wines ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. Alongside the Albamar Albariño it makes single-plot Albariños such as Finca O Pereiro, Alma de Mar, 69 Arrobas, Pepe Luis and O Sebal, Caíño and Espadeiro reds under the O Esteiro label, and a Ribeira Sacra Mencía, Fusco.
