Bodegas Arautava is a family winery in La Orotava, in the D.O. Valle de La Orotava (Tenerife), now in its third generation. Early last century Don Casiano García began making wine on the steep slopes of Aguamansa, and in 1975 his son Américo García Núñez bought an old, century-old vineyard at the top of the valley, Finca La Habanera, where he revived the cordón trenzado, the braided-cane training inherited from Portuguese growers. They work by hand and only with local varieties such as Listán Blanco, Listán Negro, Albillo Criollo, Vidueño and Malvasía Aromática. The range is organised into historic wines, such as Canary Sack, estate wines, single-site wines like Los Topes and La Quinta Roja, village wines and regional wines, including Tanganillo and Cruz del Teide.
