Bodegas Arfe is a small winery in the centre of Jerez de la Frontera, within the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry D.O., devoted to a single wine: Palo Cortado de la Cruz de 1767. It was conceived in 2000 by winemaker and chemist Luis Arroyo Felices, who after years at other houses wanted to launch his own project, using Palomino grapes and two decades of oxidative ageing. The wine rests in 216 American oak butts seasoned for more than half a century, in a solera with two criaderas, inside an 18th-century winery building that keeps its original Tarifa stone floor and a plaque dated 1767. Visits, guided by the winery itself, are by prior reservation only.
