Cortijo de Jara is the wine and olive oil brand of Puerta Nueva, the farming arm of a Jerez family group, which some fifteen years ago planted vines and olive trees in the countryside around Jerez de la Frontera and restored the old farmhouse as a winery. It makes Tierra de Cádiz wines from its own grapes: oak-aged reds of six and twelve months from Tempranillo, Merlot and Syrah, and a white from Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, along with Arbequina extra virgin olive oil. The estate is open to anyone who wants to see how they work: visits include a walk through the fields and a tasting that follows the wine from the tanks to the ageing room, with options for breakfast, an aperitif with products from the Cádiz highlands or lunch in the cellar.
