Bodegas Palmera

◍ Valencia

About the winery

Bodegas Palmera is the Spanish vineyard of the Sauer family, organic winegrowers from Landau-Nussdorf in the German Palatinate. They founded it in 1998 in the Utiel area, within the D.O. Utiel-Requena, a mountain district some 70 kilometres from the sea with a continental climate and sharp contrasts between day and night. They farm around 20 hectares of old vines organically on chalky, stony soils, among almond and olive trees. They make intense reds in several ranges: Casa Palmera for everyday drinking; Tierra Palmera, from selected harvests and aged in oak; Noble Palmera, from the oldest vines and French barrels; and Viña Capricho, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in numbered bottles.
