About the winery
Bodegas y Viñedos Rodrigo Méndez is in Xil, in the municipality of Meaño, in the Val do Salnés of the D.O. Rías Baixas. It was founded in 2011 as the personal project of Rodrigo Méndez, the fifth generation of a Salnés winegrowing family and also behind Forjas del Salnés, a winery founded in 2005 and named after the blacksmith trade of his grandfather, Francisco Méndez, who helped create the D.O. in 1988. Under this label he makes Albariño from family vineyards: Cíes, a blend of several plots, and Sálvora, from a single vineyard in Meaño that yields only a few barrels a year. The wines ferment with native yeasts, the whites without malolactic fermentation and with little intervention, aiming to express the soil and the Atlantic acidity of Salnés.
