About the winery
Casa Balaguer is a biodynamically farmed winery and estate in Villena, in Alicante's Alto Vinalopó and within the D.O. Alicante. It was founded by Marta and Andrés, who met while studying oenology at the Universitat Politècnica de València and started out in 2008 in a small warehouse in Villena; in 2018 they bought a 19th-century estate which they have been restoring. They make organic and biodynamic wines and olive oils from local and traditional varieties, following the lunar cycles, with organic and Demeter certification, and are members of La Renaissance des Appellations. The visit, led by the owners themselves, takes in the estate among vines, olive and fruit trees, goes through the rooms with clay tinajas, concrete tanks and barrels, and ends with a tasting of five wines.
