Casa da Barrosa

◍ Pontevedra

About the winery

Casa da Barrosa is the name of the Albariño and of the old farmhouse of Bodega Balbina, a small family winery in the hamlet of A Barrosa, in Adina (Sanxenxo), in the heart of the Val do Salnés and within the D.O. Rías Baixas. The house, dating from 1834, is a typical Galician rural home with an outdoor stone staircase and a traditional hearth, and the family has grown its vines since the middle of the last century, handing the craft down from grandparents to grandchildren. The vineyard lies about two kilometres from the Atlantic and has vines around sixty years old. For now they make a single wine, Albariño Casa da Barrosa, in small quantities, aiming for it to reflect the differences of each vintage rather than a uniform style.
