About the winery
Juan García Jarana is an almacenista in Jerez de la Frontera, within the D.O. Jerez-Xérès-Sherry. His winery, known as El Aljibe, is a small bodega founded in the late 19th century by the Balbás de los Ríos family and bought by García Jarana in 1979. Almacenistas are independent artisan producers who age their wines in small cellars, a traditional figure of the Jerez region. Since 1989 Bodegas Lustau has selected and bottled this winery's Pata de Gallina 1/38 oloroso in its Almacenista range, straight from the original solera and with the owner's name on the label. For García Jarana, winemaking has always been more a passion than a business.
