In 1292 the Crown of Castile granted Marshal Don Payo de Ribera a vast expanse of land next to the Montes de Toledo, which since the conquest of Toledo had been a hunting ground for bears, deer and wild boar for its kings, especially Alfonso XI. In 1350 Peter I the Cruel ratified the ownership by royal privilege and the Lordship of Valdepusa was created. In the 14th century the lords of Valdepusa acquired the Lordship of Griñón, which at the beginning of the 19th century would become a marquisate.
