The Bargiela Bienati Winery

◍ Pontevedra

About the winery

The Bargiela Bienati Winery is a small winery in Porto, in Salvaterra de Miño (Pontevedra), run by Nadia and Hernán, a young Argentine-born couple who are grandchildren of Italians and Spaniards. The family made wine on this land for generations until war forced them to emigrate, and they have come back to close the circle, like the salmon swimming back upriver. The micro-winery is housed in a stone building more than a hundred years old where their great-grandmother Filomena lived. The vineyard lies on a south-facing terraced slope, about 700 metres from the Miño, and is tended by hand. They make Blue Salmon, a blend of five European varieties never combined before, and Avoa Filomena, an unfiltered wine from local grapes with a touch of oak, in tribute to their great-grandmother.
