See the D.O. Ribeira Sacra →The Ribeira Sacra concentrates Lugo's wine tourism in the canyons of the Sil and the Miño. Municipalities such as Monforte de Lemos, Sober, Chantada or Quiroga offer stone country houses, pazos (Galician manor houses) and charming hotels overlooking the terraced vineyards, those heroic terraces that tumble down towards the river.
A former monastery like Santo Estevo de Ribas de Sil now operates as a parador, and the city of Lugo, within its Roman walls, makes a comfortable base. To the north, the A Mariña coast adds lodgings facing the Cantabrian Sea.
Lugo's cuisine is about produce and festivity. Lacón con grelos (pork shoulder with turnip tops), Galician broth and empanada pair wonderfully with the mencías and godellos of the Ribeira Sacra. Galician beef and pulpo á feira (fair-style octopus) reign at the inland pilgrimage festivals.
Vilalba boasts its San Simón da Costa cheese, smoked and pear-shaped, while the A Mariña coast provides shellfish and fresh fish. The silky, aromatic reds of the terraces and the godello whites round off a table that tastes of granite and river.

Along the coast, the A Mariña shore —Ribadeo, Foz, Viveiro— concentrates campsites facing the beaches and cliffs of the Cantabrian Sea, with the Praia das Catedrais as its icon. The eastern sierras and O Courel, with their ancient groves and Atlantic forests, complete a range of spots for sleeping close to nature.
