Aba Solleira is a small family winery in A Peroxa (Ourense), at the westernmost edge of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, where the Atlantic meets the mountains. It was founded in 2017 by Emi and Carlos, agronomists and winemakers with some 25 years in the trade, who farm their slopes without herbicides or chemical fertilisers, leaving room for biodiversity and aiming for moderate yields. Harvesting is by hand and production is very limited. They make two reds: Aba Solleira, almost entirely Mencía from granite soils, aged in a French oak vat, and Aba Solleira Selección Personal, also Mencía with a touch of Brancellao and Merenzao from their oldest vines on slate, aged in 500-litre barrels. Visits are by appointment only.
