Al pie del Abismo

◍ Salamanca

About the winery

Al pie del Abismo is a small family project in Pereña de la Ribera, in the D.O. Arribes, whose vineyard lies inside the Arribes del Duero Natural Park, beside the canyon that forms the border with Portugal. The family, now in its fourth generation of growers, tends the vineyard planted by great-grandfather Manuel in 1936, farmed organically, bush-trained, unirrigated, without herbicides and with cover crops. Juan García and Tinto Jeromo, an almost vanished variety, grow in this plot, which yields a single red, Al pie del Abismo, made in very small quantities and aged in barrel. The winery occupies a traditional village house, with its underground section used for ageing, and offers small-group visits with a tasting and the option of seeing the vineyard.
