Alvaredos-Hobbs was born in Alvaredos, an almost deserted hamlet overlooking the River Sil, in the province of Lugo and within the Ribeira Sacra. It is a partnership between Antonio López, whose family had planted vines on these slopes since the 19th century, and the winemaker Paul Hobbs, whom he met in 2014. From the late 1990s Antonio bought back the vineyards his family had sold when they emigrated to the United States, and the winery was built by joining four stone houses in the village, with chestnut beams and stones from his grandfather's old cellar. They farm around 4.4 hectares in 13 small terraced plots of slate and granite, all by hand, with native varieties such as godello and mencía. They ferment with indigenous yeasts and age in French oak and foudre, producing their Godello and their Mencía.
