Bodega A Carqueixa

◍ Lugo

About the winery

Bodega A Carqueixa is a young winery founded in 2017 in the Ribeira Sacra, with its vineyards in the Amandi subzone, between the village and the river Sil, in the Sil canyons. It practises heroic viticulture on stone terraces with slopes of more than 70% over granite soils, which store the day's heat, while the nearby river creates a mild microclimate. All the vineyards are its own, and growing, harvesting and winemaking are done by hand. Mencía dominates, with small amounts of Merenzao, Sousón and Garnacha Tintorera. It makes two Mencía reds: Coronín, a young wine, and Garoubas, aged for at least six months in oak barrels.
