About the winery
Aníbal de Otero is a family project in the Bierzo D.O. with its winery in Villafranca del Bierzo, born from childhood memories among the vines and the wish to keep alive the legacy of Aníbal García, for whom his vines meant almost everything. They work only with old-vine Mencía, some over 130 years old and already tended by earlier generations, in the Los Fornos site, on gravel and slate soils sheltered by the La Cabrera and Los Ancares ranges. The bush vines are farmed by hand. With winemaker José Hidalgo, the wine ferments in small steel tanks, is aged in French oak and bottled without fining or stabilisation. Their wines include El Cepón, Terrafondada, Los Fornos and AO Villa de Otero.
