About the winery
Bodegas El Penitente are located on the north coast of the island of Tenerife, near the town of La Orotava. Legend has it that on some nights, while fishing, the boatmen of Puerto de la Cruz would spot the solitary light of a lantern indicating that a monk was doing penance in his cell in the old monastery. Hence the name El Penitente, given to that stretch of coast and to the wineries that produce these wines: Arautava, Bodegas de Miranda, Tanganillo and Cruz del Teide.
