About the winery
The winery of María Milagros Santos Negrín, known as Bodega Las Cuevas, stands on the main road to Arure, in Valle Gran Rey, in the west of La Gomera, and belongs to the D.O. La Gomera. It sits at about 850 metres above sea level and is dug into the rock, which gives it stable conditions for winemaking. Its southwest-facing vineyards get sun all day in a setting of heroic viticulture. It grows white varieties such as forastera gomera, listán blanco, pedro ximénez and malvasía volcánica, and red ones such as listán negro, baboso negro, tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon and ruby cabernet. Its wines are called Viña Cheo: a red based on listán negro with some negramoll, and a dry white from forastera blanca and listán blanco with a touch of malvasía volcánica and pedro ximénez.
