When we speak of the wines of La Gomera, there are two essential terms, risk viticulture and Forastera Blanca. When we think of risk viticulture it is because its vineyards hang on impossible terraces, which means that the harvests in La Gomera are barely mechanised, giving rise to wines of character and reduced yields. On the other hand, the grape variety found on the island is Forastera Blanca in 85% of the terrain, which lends a unique typicity to the wines of the island.

The rugged, very difficult-to-cultivate terrain is the constant of La Gomera; terraces with stone walls on steeply sloping land that have traditionally forced the winegrower into effort and sacrifice. The vine is grown creeping over the ground, though in the Hermigua area the medium-height trellised vines (parrales) stand out, adapting to the irregularities of the terrain. The espalier has been installed on those plots that allow it.

The forastera blanca is the most representative variety of the Island and the most highly valued oenologically for its adaptation and aromatic potential. Among the rest of the whites, the Listán Blanco, Marmajuelo and Malvasía stand out. Among the reds, Listán Negro, Negramoll, Castellana and Tintilla are worth mentioning. La Gomera is an island traditionally producing young white wines, but in recent years the cultivation of red grapes has proliferated, giving rise to young wines of excellent qualities and future. In general, both reds and whites are soft, aromatic wines, well balanced on the palate.
