About the winery

Os Cipreses is a family winery in San Fiz, Chantada, in the Ribeira Sacra do Miño. It takes its name from the two cypress trees someone planted more than three centuries ago to signal lodging and wine to travellers, and which today preside over a hillside of vines dropping down to the river. The family bought the estate in 1989, restored the winery and revived vineyards that had been abandoned, releasing its first wine in 1991; it was also one of the first wineries to join the D.O. Ribeira Sacra. The estate is divided into the plots A Granxa, Roimil, Tarreo da Calexa and the Viña do Inferno, with a gradient of over 66%, all worked by hand on granite soils. The last of these gives its oak-aged Cypressus, while the others provide its young Mencía and its white.
