About the winery

Adega Proencia is a family winery in Proendos, in Sober, overlooking the Sil canyon in the Amandi area, within the D.O. Ribeira Sacra. It began when the grandfather, a bricklayer, gave up building work and his son bought the Seoane vineyard and built a small cellar; it joined the Regulatory Council in 1999 and is now run by Tomás Arias, with the fourth generation already involved. Its vines, some up to 80 years old, grow on terraces on almost vertical slopes and are worked by hand. They make Mencía reds: Proencia joven, Proencia barrica and Proencia Terzo, with three months in barrel. The name comes from the nearby Roman town of Proencia. They have a tasting room and offer visits with a walk through the vineyards and a tasting, by appointment.
