The Royal Winery of Charles III was commissioned by the king in 1782 to supply wine and oil to the Royal Household. In 1766, after his reign in Naples and at the start of his reign in Spain, His Majesty Charles III acquired in Aranjuez an estate called «Finca del Rey» in order to turn Aranjuez into a modern rural site in line with the ideas of enlightened despotism, and a larder for his palaces. According to the chroniclers of the time, the «Real Cortijo de San Isidro», 5 km from Aranjuez, made this Royal Site the seed of modern and truly royal agriculture.
