Bodegas Casa Primicia

About the winery

Bodegas Casa Primicia is based in Laguardia, the capital of Rioja Alavesa, in the Casa de la Primicia, the oldest civil building in the town, where the Church once collected tithes and first-fruits on the harvest. A local grape grower, Julián Madrid, rescued the building; his children restored the old winery and today it is run by his grandchildren, the third generation. Their vineyards stretch from the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria to the slopes near the Ebro, and their most prized estate is Carravalseca, organic and surrounded by olive trees. They make the Casa Primicia range, with single-varietal Mazuelo, Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano, and the Carravalseca line. Visits, in small groups, explore the underground cellars of the medieval town and end with a tasting.
