Bodegas el Escocés Volante

◍ Zaragoza

About the winery

El Escocés Volante is the family winery of Norrel Robertson, a Scot and Master of Wine who, after years in the wine trade in Edinburgh and harvests around the world, came to Spain in 2003 to revive old Garnacha vineyards in the Calatayud D.O. His wife Sharon and sons James and Will work with him. Their vineyards, between 50 and 115 years old, lie in the Sierra de la Virgen and Sierra de Armantes, north-east of Calatayud, in villages such as Aniñón, Cervera de la Cañada, Villarroya de la Sierra and Torrijo de la Cañada, at 650 to 1,000 metres, on slate, iron-rich clay, limestone and puddingstone. Besides Garnacha they grow Mazuelo, Moristel, Macabeo, Garnacha Gris and Provechón, organically since 2014. Their wines include La Multa Garnacha.
