Bodegas El Gallo

◍ Córdoba

About the winery

Bodegas El Gallo began in 1863 as a tavern on the Plaza de la Corredera in Córdoba, in the heart of the Montilla-Moriles D.O. In the early 20th century it passed to the Alijo family, who began ageing wine at the back of the premises and later expanded the winery on Calle Buen Suceso, where its shop selling directly to the public is still open today alongside the bottling plant. Since the late 1980s the ageing has taken place in the Córdoba sierra, and the business remains in the hands of the same family. They make the typical wines of the area, such as amargoso, amontillado, abocado, Pedro Ximénez and moscatel, as well as their own labels such as Finura del Gallo and Tío José, and a vermouth.
