About the winery
The José Luis Guillermo Mendieta S.L. winery was born in 1890 under the name Eduardo Prous. In 1927 it was leased to Mariano Guillermo Moreno, who acquired it in 1940, and since then it has been known as the “bodega del tío Mariano”. He became famous throughout the peninsula for the large quantities of grapes he bought and transported with his mules and carts, as well as by rail in large foudres. In 1968 the winery passed to his sons, Juan Antonio and José Luis Guillermo Mendieta, taking on the name it bears today.
