In the nineteenth century, in 1849, Antonio de Orleans, Duke of Montpensier, son of King Louis Philippe of France, was on a pleasure trip through Andalusia when he discovered the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda at the mouth of the river Guadalquivir. The Duke liked that fishing village with its indescribable sunsets so much that he decided to settle there and soon, among other businesses, planted vineyards on the estate now known as Torrebreva.
