About the winery

Bodegas Sáenz, also known as Bodegas del Diezmo Nuevo, is in Moguer, in the D.O. Condado de Huelva. Its origins go back to 1770, when the Sáenz family from Nestares de Cameros in La Rioja came to Moguer, drawn by its wines, and settled in the former Diezmo Nuevo convent, where the winery is still working six generations later. They are credited with introducing bottled wine to the town instead of bulk sales, and the winery is mentioned by Juan Ramón Jiménez in Platero and I. Its range combines Condado wines, such as Viña El Patriarca as a Condado Pálido, a fruity young white and a semi-sweet, with red and white vermouth, Muscat, Pedro Ximénez, raisin wine, sweet wine and the traditional orange and strawberry wines.
