About the winery
Señorío de Urarte is a family winery in Lanciego, in Rioja Alavesa, within the D.O.Ca. Rioja. The Urarte family has been making wine in the village since 1890 and bottling under its own label since 1980. The winery occupies an old stone building in Lanciego's historic centre, with no designer architecture: what matters is inside. They see themselves first and foremost as farmers and personally tend more than fifty hectares of their own vineyards, where they select the grapes by hand and discard any that arrive damaged. They make three reds, a young wine, a crianza and a reserva, aged in French and American oak barrels, combining time-honoured craft with modern equipment.
