Bodegas Siderales
About the winery
Bodegas Siderales is in Lapuebla de Labarca, in Rioja Alavesa and within the D.O.Ca. Rioja. It was created to complete Tonelería Quercus's research into barrel toasting, and it is where the cooperage tests its own systems, horizontal rotary toasting and the Barrel Box. They buy Tempranillo and Garnacha from vines over 50 years old from small local growers, on clay-limestone soils above 550 metres. Winemaking is done by hand: they ferment in barrels or small wooden vats and carry out malolactic fermentation in new barrels of different oaks. Their flagship wine is Sideral, and they often host winemakers who come to compare barrels.
