Bodegas Timanfaya is in Mácher, in the municipality of Tías (Lanzarote), and has been part of the D.O. Lanzarote since 1999. It is a family winery making artisan wines with traditional methods in small batches, and it has the unusual feature of occupying a cave formed by the lava and ash of Timanfaya. It works with very old vineyards in La Geria, some more than two and a half centuries old, and is run by winemaker Alberto González Plasencia, with a team devoted to viticulture, tourism and the environment. Among its wines is a 1999 sweet reserva kept in the so-called Lorenzo cave. It offers ecotourism experiences, tasting courses, tailor-made food and wine events and walks through the historic vineyards of La Geria with a wine tasting.
