About the winery
Bodegas y Viñedos Castiblanque is in Campo de Criptana, in the heart of La Mancha. The family has been farming vines for three generations: grandfather Jesús Castiblanque Alberca began planting Airén by hand around the 1950s and, with his son, gradually expanded the bush-trained vineyard to today's 120 hectares of their own. In 2001 the family restored a 19th-century winery, El Montañés, keeping its stone walls, Arab roof tiles and pine beams, and fitted it out to make wine with modern equipment. Its labels are Baldor, Ilex, Lagar de Ensancha and Solamente, with wines such as Ilex Airén and Baldor Chardonnay. By appointment it offers winery tours with a Manchego appetiser, tastings of unfinished wine straight from the tank, harvest days, family activities and a route through the windmills of the Sierra de Criptana.
