The family has grown vines in the Priorat for centuries; the oldest references date back to the 14th century. Phylloxera at the end of the 19th century wiped out all the vines and part of the family moved to the city to survive. It was grandfather Joan Pasanau, after marrying Maria Estrems Cornadó at the beginning of the 20th century, who recovered the land and planted new vines. During the 1980s his grandson Ricard Pasanau took charge of the land, acquired new properties and introduced new varieties and new growing systems.
