In the 11th century the monks of the Monastery of San Clodio owned extensive properties, most of them devoted to growing vines, and in the 17th century they built the Priory of Vieite (formerly Villa Benedicto), also surrounded by vines brought from the Rhine valley. In 1990 the lawyer Lorenzo Rolando de Francisco acquired the Priory of Vieite with its vineyards, planting mainly the Treixadura variety. In 2006 he opened the Pazo de Vieite, S.L. winery near the Priory, which features advanced technology.
