Sidra Castañón
About the winery
Llagar Castañón was founded by my maternal grandfather, Mr Alfredo García Menéndez, in 1938. He worked in passenger transport, covering the Quintes-Gijón-Quintes route in a coach he owned, and was left without work when the vehicle was confiscated during the war. Two years later the coach turned up in Valladolid completely unusable, so he sold it for scrap for some 12,000 pesetas. With this money and some savings he built the main building to make the cider house.
