About the winery

Garena Txakolina is a winery in Dima, in Bizkaia, on the border between the Urkiola and Gorbea natural parks, within the DO Bizkaiko Txakolina. Its name means what we are, and the project brings together a vineyard surrounding the Axpe-Goikoa restaurant and a modern winery, with the idea of moving txakoli forward without losing its roots in the land. The vineyard, on steep south-facing slopes at around 260 metres, on shallow soils over limestone and marl, is planted with the native varieties Hondarrabi Zerratia and Hondarrabi Zuri. They make Garena, which blends both after vinifying them separately and ageing part on lees, and Geroa, from Zerratia alone, aged six months on its lees in tank and designed to gain complexity over the years.
