Vinos Mergus

◍ Santa Cruz de Tenerife

About the winery

Vinos Mergus is the winery of Gustavo Enrique Fernández Brito and his wife Mercedes Brito Rodríguez in San Simón, in Villa de Mazo, within the D.O. La Palma. After a lifetime devoted to wine on the island, in 2023 they started afresh with their own label. They work only with native La Palma varieties on plots spread across the island, at different altitudes and with different microclimates: albillo criollo, listán blanco and negramol in Puntagorda, between 1,100 and 1,300 metres; listán blanco, listán prieto and negramol in the Altos de Bellido, in Tijarafe; listán negro in Garafía; and vijariego negro and malvasía in San Simón. These are very steep terraces where the whole harvest is done by hand. From them they make four reds and four whites.
