About the winery
Vinyes de Castellgalí revives the winemaking tradition of the Playà family at Can Mas, a farmhouse in Castellgalí, in the Bages area in the shadow of Montserrat, within the D.O. Pla de Bages. Valentí Playà bought the house and its land in 1813, and over the generations the family planted vines, built a small cellar and replanted after phylloxera. Today's descendants have renewed the vineyards and, for the first time, bottle their own wine, with Carles Playà as winemaker. They have been certified organic since 2016 and preserve the estate's dry-stone huts and walls. They make Falçó, a young unoaked red; Perunés; Pedruscall, a more structured red; and 5 Somades, a white aged in French oak. Since 2019 they have offered, on a modest scale, tastings and visits by appointment.
