Más de 70 profesionales asisten a la presentación de la DO. Cataluña en México

The DO Catalunya took its wines to Mexico City with a day aimed at the professional trade. The response was notable: around seventy professionals from distribution, export and the press attended to discover a winemaking tradition more than two thousand years old.

An event designed for the professional

The gathering was conceived as a working day, not merely an image event. Bringing wineries together in the same space with importers, distributors and specialist journalists shortens distances and opens up commercial conversations that would otherwise take months to happen. Professionals came from both the Mexican capital and other states, a sign of the interest that Catalan wine arouses in the country.

How the day was organised

The programme combined business and gastronomic experience in an agile format:

  • A first B2B session of meetings between wineries and professionals.
  • A pairing lunch with wines from the appellation, led by an oenologist from the regulatory board itself.
  • A second part of the B2B session in a showroom format, more informal and open.
  • A closing tasting that ran through the diversity of the appellation with numerous references.

The strength of a broad DO

The DO Catalunya has a particularity that makes it attractive to exporters: it covers much of Catalan territory, which translates into an enormous variety of soils, climates and styles. In a single tasting you can go from a fresh coastal white to a fuller-bodied inland red. That diversity is a strong commercial argument for markets seeking a range within a single origin.

Mexico, a growing market

Wine consumption in Mexico has been rising for years, and Spain competes there with producers from all over the world. Actions like this one, focused on direct contact and on showing the product in its context, are the best way to build loyalty with those who decide what goes on the wine lists and the shelves. The final picture -a room full of professionals tasting- confirms that the effort was worthwhile.

Catalonia is also a first-rate wine tourism destination. If you want to get to know its wineries on the ground, take a look at our appellations section and discover which areas to visit.
