Barbarot began to take shape in 2005, when I started vinifying the grapes from a single vineyard, Los Riscos de Bilibio, in Haro. This vineyard was planted by my father, Antonio Palacios Muro, with Tempranillo and Merlot, chosen for the peculiarity of its soil. Its characteristics evoked the yellowish soils of Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux, where the best plots of this French variety are grown. This was an “experimental growing” project backed by the Regulatory Council of the Rioja D.O.Ca.
