Batlliu de Sort is a high-mountain winery in the Pallars, in the Lleida Pyrenees, next to an old mountain barn of the Batlliu de Sort. Its vineyards, on the slope of the Noguera Pallaresa and within the influence of the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, occupy former grazing meadows: the first Pinot Noir vines were planted in winter 2007, some two hundred years after vines had disappeared from the area. They farm Pinot Noir, Riesling and Viognier organically on limestone and slate soils, seeking fresh, refined wines with character, such as Finca de les Lleres, Salvavides, Pantigana, Nero de Sort and the BIU Pinot Noir and Riesling. Josep, who left banking for farming, runs the day-to-day and leads tastings and activities; they also serve dinners.
