Bodega Darío Lubiano

◍ Valladolid

About the winery

Bodega Darío Lubiano is in Pesquera de Duero, in the province of Valladolid and at the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, and is named after a local farmer and grower who passed on to the winery his attachment to the land and to work well done. It makes wine only from Tempranillo grown in its own old plots in the La Ermita, El Quintanar and Los Cuernos sites, with vines from 25 to over a hundred years old on limestone-rich clay-loam soils. Grapes are picked by hand, with bunch selection and small crates, and the winemaking is artisanal and low-intervention, with native yeasts, malolactic fermentation in barrel and twelve months of ageing in French oak. Production is small, and members of its Gente de Bodega club enjoy tastings at the winery itself.
