Bodega Francisco Barona is in Roa, in the Burgos heartland of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. Francisco Barona grew up among vines in a family of growers, studied viticulture and oenology in Bordeaux and worked in France, the United States and South Africa before returning to Ribera as a winemaker. In 2010 he bought his first old-vine plots, in 2014 he made the first red under his name, and in 2021 he built his own winery, which he designed himself, with barrel ageing underground. He works his own dry-farmed bush vines in Roa, La Horra, Anguix, La Aguilera and Boada de Roa, some over a hundred years old. Alongside Tinto Fino he grows Garnacha, Albillo and other old varieties. His wines are Francisco Barona and Finca Las Dueñas, from a 1928 vineyard in Anguix.
