Frontón de Oro is a family winery in Vega de San Mateo, in the highlands of Gran Canaria, within the Gran Canaria D.O. Its origins lie in the El Frontón estate, on the La Lechuza mountain, where Antonio Ramírez and María Peñate planted vines on terraces in the 1970s to sell table grapes. Their sons Pedro and Antonio made the move to wine: they made the first one in 1995 and started bottling in 1996. The vineyards lie above 1,200 metres, on volcanic soil. The family took part in creating the designation and has recovered local varieties, and its range includes Albillo, Malvasía, Tintilla, Malpaís, Tinto Vertierra and Tinto Tradicional, among others.
