About the winery
13 Viñas is a craft winery in Cubillos del Sil, in the D.O. Bierzo, founded in 2013 by Julio Calvo and his partner Jesús Alcaide. It began when Julio decided to take over the family vineyards so they would not be lost, and since then they have been reviving abandoned plots and very old vines, working with minimal intervention. They mainly make Mencía, alongside Godello, Doña Blanca and Jerez: the white Babú, from vines 80 to 100 years old; the young red Mingus; the clarete Jonás; Alto de la Judiega, from high-altitude vines aged in barrel; A Ponte Vella, whose label recalls the bridge between Congosto and Cubillos; and the single-site wine Falso Wembley. They offer winery visits with tastings and options that add the vineyard, pairings with Bierzo produce, hiking or e-bikes.
