Bodegas Ayagar

◍ La Rioja

About the winery

Bodegas Ayagar is in Hormilleja, a small village in Rioja Alta within the D.O.Ca. Rioja, with a long winegrowing tradition and the chimneys of its old rock-cut caves, where each villager used to keep their wine. The winery started in 2004 and was the first in the village to sell wine under the Rioja Designation of Origin. They hand-harvest grapes from the Najerilla area and make a short, straightforward range: a young red and a crianza from Tempranillo, a Viura white and a rosé from Viura and Tempranillo. At the winery itself, in the Valpierre area, they also run a restaurant serving Riojan cuisine with seasonal produce.
