Bodegas Madai

About the winery

Bodegas Madai is a family project with vineyards in El Bierzo, within the D.O. Bierzo, which two brothers, one of them Daniel, see as the continuation of an inherited dream. The family has grown grapes and made wine in the area for generations: it had a winery in Cacabelos and, after moving to A Coruña, the father opened another one there. The name refers to Madai, ancestor of the Medes in ancient tradition, as a nod to the studies that place the origin of wine in Mesopotamia. They farm vines more than eighty years old of El Bierzo's two flagship grapes, Mencía and Godello, the latter used for their white Godello Madai Origen.
